These days, they are no longer just a European treat. Delta airlines serves them, most Walgreens stores in the US carry them and you can easily purchase them on line.
But, until recently, I never knew the cookie is now being marketed as a spread, as competition to Nutella in Europe and peanut butter in the US. This NY Times article has an interesting story about Lotus and the creation of the cookies spread.
We hunted for it in our local grocery store after seeing it in an advertisement, but no luck. Then, we found it on the breakfast buffet, in where else, but, Belgium.
I was anxious to try it, but not at breakfast, so a couple of these came home with us.
I’m glad we never found a jar of this stuff in the grocery. To me, it doesn’t taste anything like the cookies. Do you like the cookies or the spread?

is actually a French company and their cheese is sold internationally. Even though it isn't German, it comes from the German grocery and it's one of my favorite things to snack on. Thanks to this little freebee, I can now have fondue. How cool is that?
sometimes comes in a can or a jar, but it also comes in a box. Well, not completely true. It comes in a bag that is covered in a box. All the packaging is recyclable and because it folds flat, takes up less space in the bin. Oh, and it's organic. What's not to like?

"bio" = "organic" and "real" isn't the opposite of fake, it's the name of a grocery store.
I was surprised to see milk that is made by one of the most famous breweries in Germany.
I knew Weihenstephan was the oldest brewery in the world, brewing beer since 1040. What I didn't know until I saw the milk, is Weihenstephan is also a dairy that's been around for 1000 years.
A visit to their website is like taking a short trip to Bavaria.
